About Me

Hi there! I’m Gary. This is Fourteen Screws. I like writing games, and learning about game development as I go.

Fourteen Screws started when I was in hospital recovering from surgery. I’ve always wanted to write videogames, and a stint in hospital was solid motivation to get started. You can read all about it on the old blog.

A few quick things about me.

I’m from Ireland. The indie dev scene here is genuinely pretty awesome!

I have a PhD in Computer Science.

I’ve done research on digital preservation and restoration of Irish cultural heritage artifacts. I’ve also done some work on European research projects that investigate disinformation in Europe.

I left academia to sail around the Atlantic on the world’s largest ocean-going wooden sailing ship. I had a lot of fun working with the ship’s carpenter while I was there.

I now work for a FAANG as a network engineer.
